Thanksgiving Turkey and Ham Hash Pie

Leftovers into a yummy pie

This is a great way to repurpose your Thanksgiving leftovers into a Thanksgiving Hash Pie. Leftovers no mater how amazing they are get old looking. Especially if you eat them in the same way for a couple of days. But transforming them into something completely new, leftovers become delicious and appetizing again.

It’s not a new idea. The Italian’s do it with old risotto rice. They make this cheesy fried rice ball called Arancini. It’s a stuffed rice ball coasted with bread crumbs and deep fried. Also fried rice is another dish using old white rice. Vegetables and eggs are added to day old rice to make another delicious dish.

So this recipe or idea is doing the same thing. Don’t let food go to waste but repurposing it into a delicious way. . This pie is layers of green been casserole , roasted turkey and ham, gravy and mashed potatoes put into a pie crust and baked. Not only does this work for Thanksgiving but for any holiday celebrations. So for instance this same idea could be used for Christmas and Easter too. I had bought 2 pie crusts and had an extra one in the freezer . My son who is home for the holiday came up with this idea in a passing conversation.

The following morning I see him cutting up turkey and ham. Then layering all the leftovers in the fridge into the pie crust. He puts it into the oven for 30 minutes. After I saw it come out of the oven, I was sold. It looked delicious with golden potatoes on top and it tasted amazing because of all the flavors of Thanksgiving were in pie form. It was easier and more fun to eat. With each bite I tasted potatoes , ham, green beans and stuffing. It’s the perfect savory pie that I love. Yum

To make this even more delicious is to add fried onions on the very top. Sprinkle the crispy onions on the potatoes just before going into the oven. Then the last 5 minutes of cooking, broil the pie on high to crisp the top of the pie and make those onions even crisper.
